Taking the hassle out of finding used cars for sale

by John Graham

I love shopping for anything and everything. I enjoy shopping for computer stuff, as well as electronics and clothes. There have been times in my life where I have wished that I could be a professional shopper. I think this is something that I will look into doing for a part-time retirement job. It would be fun to go get groceries for people that cannot get out, or to take them shopping if they do not have transportation.

Even though I love to shop there is one thing I cannot stand to do, look for a used car. When it comes to new and used cars and trucks for sale by owners, I want nothing to do with shopping. I have had a few bad experiences in buying used cars for sale and since that time I have hated shopping for previously or preowned cars. Some 42 million used cars are bought and sold every year in this country. I put a great deal of miles on my vehicles so unfortunately I need to purchase cars more often than I would like. Most times I have my husband look with so that I am getting sound advice about a car. I was in the market for another vehicle and I was complaining about having to look at finding cheap used cars for sale. One of my co-workers told me about looking up previously owned vehicles on the internet. My first response was that I did not want to drive all over the place finding a car. He told me that this was not necessary. You can go on several different used car sites and type in what you are looking for and what area you are willing to travel to find it. A list of cheap used cars for sale by owner will pop up for that area.

I thought this sounded too good to be true. I went on one of the sites. I filled in the boxes that asked what price range I was interested in, what make and model and how many miles on the vehicle. I could be as general or specific as I wanted to be. I was then asked to type in my zip code and what mile radius I was willing to travel from that zip code. I entered all the information and found three cars in the area that met the criteria that I entered. One was for sale by owner and the other two were at dealerships. I called the private party to make arrangements to see the car. My husband and I went and looked at the cars that were at the dealerships. We then went and looked at the car from the private party. The individual that had the car had kept great maintenance logs and the car had very low miles on it. There was a small dent in the back fender; otherwise the car was in great shape. We bought the car and made arrangements to switch over the title the next day. It was the smoothest process I had ever been involved in when purchasing a vehicle. Remember that used cars are very negotiable and you can check the value of a vehicle by checking the blue book value at KBB.com or consult the lemon aid books available at book stores.

A significant percentage of all pre owned cars are purchased through Classified ads placed by individuals selling their personal car online these days. Insurance, fees and tags for used cars are usually quite a bit less expensive than they are for new cars, if you're looking at the right models. Today, used cars are less of a gamble than they used to be; most autos are generally more reliable and newer cars have extended warranties which cover most major probllems such as engine and transmission problems. Used cars are ideal for those with a smaller budget, or people whom can't afford the equivalent new car of their choice. Why buy a new car when used cars are a much better overall value and reviews and information is at your fingertips.

Check the Used Car Reviews
Unfortunately with the price of vehicles many of us need to purchase pre-owned vehicles. It is very important if you are in the market for a vehicle to check the used car reviews. Some cars hold their value much better than others because they are designed to run well even with high mileage. Reliable used car reviews include the maintenance records for the vehicle, how many previous owners there have been, whether it was ever in an accident and whether there have been any factory recalls on that model, read more...

Tips for finding used car values
For some reason I draw the line of trust with used car salesmen. I do not know if I believe that all used car salesmen are dishonest, but it seems that the times I have been taken has been around a vehicle. I do not even pretend that I know anything about cars. I tell people that I do not expect the general public to know where to make referrals for services or to do mediations services, so I should not be expected to know the job of a mechanic, read more...
