Check the Used Car Reviews and ratings before buying

by Bill Magnus

In the United States we are very dependent upon our vehicles. Only the major cities have reliable convenient mass transit systems. Along with the dependency some people also tend to have love affairs with their cars. These people will name their cars, spend hours washing and waxing them and will purchase different accessories for them. People also have their dream vehicles. Many people will mention what type of vehicle they would buy if they won the lottery.

Unfortunately with the price of vehicles many of us need to purchase pre-owned or used vehicles. It is very important if you are in the market for a vehicle to check the used car reviews. Some cars hold their value much better than others because they are designed to run well even with high mileage. Reliable used car consumer reviews and ratings include the maintenance records for the vehicle, how many previous owners there have been, whether it was ever in an accident and whether there have been any factory recalls on that model. A good dealership will have all of this information in the used car reviews. If the do not have all the information that you want do not purchase the vehicle.

Used Car shopping is one time when you do not want to rush into a purchase. Do your research and homework to know the rating of the car, the blue book value and also read the general used car consumer reports reviews for the make and model of the type of vehicle that you are looking for. Reading consumer reports and the lemonade book in book stores is also another way of finding out what other owners of your type of vehicle are experiencing. You do not want to rely solely on the information that the dealership has about the vehicles.

If you do decide to purchase a vehicle from a private party it is a good idea to take it to a mechanic and have them check it over. There is a minimal fee for this service, but if the mechanic finds something major wrong with the vehicle such as a transmission problem, it will save you money. Also ask the owner if they have the maintenance records for the vehicle. It is important that routine maintenance such as regular oil changes have been done because this will increase the life of the vehicle. Used car shopping is not an easy venture, but the more time and effort you put into insure that a pre-owned vehicle is not a lemon the less money you will need to stick into it in the future. If you are in the market for a newer model vehicle without the new sticker shocker, program cars are a good option. These are vehicles that have been used as rentals. They usually have few miles on them and are loaded with special equipment.

No two used cars are created equal, and because these cars are used, you must inspect them closely for any defects or signs of neglect or an accident. The most sought after used cars are probably less than five years old and have less than 50000 miles on the odometer. Additionally, used cars are more reliable now than ever before. These days, though, with new-car quality on the rise, used cars are getting better, too. Certified Used Cars are truly a great opportunity.
